About

I have over 24 years R&D experience in academia and industry, focused on Management Knowledge and how it can be modelled, captured, validated, shared, protected and visualised in support of effective decision making in settings with diffuse management authority. I investigate the use of declarative knowledge techniques to support management decision-making in a range of application domains, including network management, digital content processing and energy efficient buildings. I have over 140 publications and secured over €5 million of competitive research funding. I am a Associate Director of the ADAPT Centre for Digital Content and Media technologies, a €50 million SFI Centre that commenced in January 2015 , leading the €14 Million industry co-funded Spokes research programme as well as leading one of five platform research themes, addressing the management of privacy and data protection for digital customer engagement. I seek industrial and academic collaborators to advance research and innovation of rule- and knowledge-based engineering of open systems applied to: multilingual web content management; telecoms service management and smart building management. Specialties: I research the Progressive Self-Management of value networks and their shared digital resources. Self-managing value-networks must conduct management activities in a collective and participative manner free centralised or external management. Progressive self-management refers to how a value network adapts this over time in response to technological, legal and social change. Rule-based and knowledge-based techniques coupled with powerful, web-based visualisations are key to my approach.
