London, England, United Kingdom
Mmm.. I've just had confirmation after 12 years as a member of being granted Fellowship of the British Interplanetary Society: so now an FBIS (as well as --since way back in 1973-- an FRAS).
Took on this voluntary role (upon retirement from +40 yrs in Financial Services) and after the very successful Worldcon (World SF Convention)/Loncon3 (Excel-Aug 2014: +7300 attendees!). BSFA Membership has in the last year incr by 16% ! (BSFA is the National Body for SF in the UK since 1958 bsfa.co.uk)
During tenure in office : (1) updated outdated statutes, (2) helped in reform of European SF Award rules (making them harder to win and therefore enhancing their value), (3) reformed annual Eurocon (European SF Convention) concept from (not always well attended) stand-alone event (competing with that year's National SF event) to one which attached it to the host country's NatSFCon. Only complication then was that annual Eurocons moved round the year-no longer at one specific date. This has resulted in many future Eurocon bids-well into the future.
