Founding engineer at Valence. As head of engineering, grew the Valence Eng team and built the platform to achieve USD $25M Series A round in 2022, SOCII compliance in 2023, and $50M Series B round in 2025. Before that, senior softare engineer and project manager at ACL/Galvanize; during that time the company valuation grew from $40M to $200M, and later (2021) it was acquired by Diligent for USD $1B. Prior to my tech career I also enjoyed Computing research work during both of my degrees, grateful for research awards from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), Queen’s University, Simon Fraser University, and others.
Valence builds simple tools to help teams work better together. These tools are being used by teams ranging from Fortune 500 Exec teams to rapidly growing startups. We work with leaders and teams who want to build a better workplace. I led and grew the distributed engineering team building the Valence web app and platform. That used to mean I did full stack web development (HTML/Sass/obligatory JS framework/obligatory web back end), but as the team grew I had to become less specialized: Project management, dev ops, security, privacy, and mostly just helping our awesome Eng team do their awesome work. Lots of good things going on. Customers love what Valence is building. If you want help to make your team run better together, take a look: https://valence.co

My time at McKesson Technology Solutions (now Change Healthcare) gave me a very wide variety of experience, maintaining and building new tools for hospitals and radiology professionals. During this phase, I: - Designed and implemented a socket communication library for a new HL7 (hospital data standard) interoperability module in C++11 - Was selected for a pilot team, integrating developers more closely into the requirements gathering phase. With project managers and customer service colleagues, I visited hospitals to interview radiologists, technologists, and hospital IT administrators. We translated that into user profiles, defined user values, and described scenarios to help guide requirement definition.
