COL Darrin Husmann manages the Commanding Energy Portfolio at the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU). Darrin is responsible for delivering full lifecycle capabilities to address strategic energy and materiel requirements to the military by accelerating the adoption of commercial technology and strengthening the national security innovation base. Prior to joining DIU, Darrin served in various positions within the DoD, to include Science & Technology Advisor at U.S. Southern Command, the B-52 Systems Program Office Directorate Action Group (DAG), E-3 Sentry 40/45 and others. In these roles, he developed, supported and executed programs to sustain and evolve critical Department of Defense technologies and systems. Darrin started his career as a Quartermaster in the U.S. Navy, aboard the USS Georgia (G), commissioning in the Oklahoma Army National Guard as an artillery officer, and supporting the USAR in the 75th and 84th Training Commands in various operational and leadership positions. Darrin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Oklahoma and is a PMP Project Manager.
