Eliminating centrifugation in the pre-analytical phase has recently been made possible through the introduction of the “PlasmaSTAT” blood collection and separation tube. When used in place of a standard blood collection tube, PlasmaSTAT separates plasma from whole blood during standard blood collection. The PlasmaSTAT device’s unique design is a single-use disposable device enabling passive separation without hemolysis, delivering up to 300ul of plasma or serum in under a minute, addressing many of the pre-analytical errors that occur (i.e. hemolysis, transport, storage, contamination) and dramatically reducing TAT for all routine chemistry and molecular diagnostic tests. Eliminating the centrifugation process will also enable immediate emergency or STAT testing with higher sensitivity in the hospital ER, field-base diagnostics, ambulatory and veterinary diagnostics.
