As Managing Partner and Chairman of the Government and Public Sector and Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Practice Groups of Crenshaw, Ware & Martin, I leverage my extensive legal experience and expertise to help clients navigate the complex and evolving challenges of data protection and cyber risk management. With over 20 years of practice in state and federal courts, I have successfully handled a wide range of litigation matters, from breach of contract and tort claims to civil rights and constitutional issues. I also serve as a trusted advisor and counsel to governmental entities and public agencies on matters relating to governance, administration, procurement, economic development, ethics, and freedom of information. Drawing on my background as a former U.S. Army JAG attorney, I provide strategic guidance and practical solutions to senior government officials on various legal and regulatory issues. My mission is to deliver high-quality and effective legal services that protect the interests and objectives of my clients and the public.
Darius is a partner and Chairman of the Cybersecurity and Data Privacy and the Government and Public Sector Practice Groups of Crenshaw, Ware & Martin. His practice focuses on data privacy laws and regulations, helping clients mitigate cyber risk, and dealing with the legal and practical problems resulting from cyber incidents. His cybersecurity counsel to businesses and municipalities includes drafting and review of incident response plans, cybersecurity employee policies, technology contracts and conducting cybersecurity and breach response exercises. He is frequently invited to speak on cybersecurity and data privacy issues. Mr. Davenport’s practice also includes complex litigation in state and federal courts with an emphasis on public sector law, employment law and insurance defense. He represents businesses, housing authorities, special purpose authorities, and local, state, and federal governments. Mr. Davenport has extensive experience developing, drafting and interpreting government regulations and policies. As a former U.S. Army JAG attorney, he has provided legal advice and counsel to senior government officials on a wide variety of legal issues.
Darius teaches a course that focuses on the legal issues associated with data privacy and security, cybersecurity policy, computer-related crime, federal and state privacy enforcement, and online, medical, education workplace, and financial privacy laws.
Provide counseling and career planning advice to approximately 500 law students and 2,900 alumni. Develop career and professional development curriculum for students and alumni. Manage on-campus recruitment program, job fairs. Administer the law school’s nationwide alumni relations network. Manage employer outreach and judicial clerkship program. Serve as a member of the Dean’s senior leadership team serving on the Strategic Planning, Placement, and Bar Passage Committees. Responsible for new student recruitment, development, fundraising. Serve as Senior Editor for the law school alumni magazine.
Administrative Law (2007-2008) Professor of an elective course on administrative law focusing on rulemaking, adjudication, FOIA, and government standards of conduct.- Secured Transactions (2009-Present) Professor of a course on secured transactions focused on Article 9 of the UCC.
Office of the Staff Judge Advocate HQ, U.S. Army (TRADOC), Fort Monroe, Virginia: Assisted in providing legal and ethical advice to the Four Star Command and all staff directorates at HQ TRADOC and HQ, U.S. Army Accessions Command in the area of administrative law (ethics, military justice, fiscal law, adverse administrative actions, initial entry training policy, FOIA/Privacy Act). Conducted legal reviews of proposed legislation, regulations, Inspector General investigations, and command policies. Developed command legal review process for logistical support to non-federal entities. Served as an Ethics Counselor responsible for the legal review of senior official financial disclosure forms and travel, conducted general officer and mandatory ethics training, and drafted post government employment and general ethics opinions. Drafted command policy for contractors in the federal workplace. Field Screening Officer: Traveled to law schools across the country to interview hundreds of law students for full time active duty commissions in the U.S. Army JAG Corps. Office of the Post Judge Advocate, Fort Monroe: Assistant Post Judge Advocate, Chief, Legal Assistance/Client Services, Claims Attorney, Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia & Field Screening Officer. Served as Installation Prosecutor. Provided legal services in the areas of estate planning, consumer law, family law, and various other civil and criminal areas. Served as installation claims officer. Office of the Staff Jude Advocate 18th Airborne Corps & Fort Bragg: Served a community of over 200,000 active duty solders family members and retirees on matters ranging from consumer affairs, immigration law, family law, estate planning ,performance evaluation appeals, military property claims, insurance and taxation, debtors’ rights, and bankruptcy. Provided pre-deployment and incoming soldier legal briefings for active duty and reserve members.
