Many say that our first and best teachers are our parents. For my sister and me, this was certainly true. When it came to helping others, our mother started us off on the right path at a very early age. At church, when the usher came by for donations, it was an honor to be entrusted with placing our family envelope in the basket. Over the years, we saw our mother continually helping those less fortunate than herself. Sadly, she passed away in 2001 - a loss which affected us deeply. Even then, however, our mother had a final lesson to teach us. Her foresight through estate planning meant she was able to take care of her family and children, make charitable gifts to her church and other organizations, and avoid tax liabilities and other fees. As an advancement professional, I often look back on that moment. It made me realize how important it is for donors to make good financial decisions. Because of what my mother taught me, I have taken it upon myself to be an advocate for donors - better informed, and more engaged. There is a difference between a transaction-focused development officer and a transformation-driven donor adviser! Daniel had an active role in politics for a variety of campaigns in the Midwest and the Southeast. Staring with a small State Senate campaign in southern Indiana, he worked his way up to state political parties as well as campaigns for Congress. This experience taught him the importance of volunteers, campaign stewardship, and lasting relationships. Prior to attending college at Indiana University, Daniel served in the United States Army for 3 years. Growing up in the Midwest, an individual learns the importance of community and patriotism. This was best shown with his participation in Operations Desert Shield/Storm as a Forward Observer with the 3rd Infantry Division. During this time, Daniel learned the importance of team building, communication, and “esprit de corp”.
CLEMSON ELEVATE Clemson is among the nation’s most accomplished public universities. We hold our own against some of the best schools anywhere. What’s more important, though, is how our people - students, faculty, staff, alumni and stakeholders - also hold themselves to the highest standards in the world’s classrooms, its boardrooms and beyond. The benchmarks and goals of Clemson Elevate were built with input from many key people: faculty and staff, college deans, the University’s Executive Leadership Team and focus groups inside and outside of Clemson University. Input and direction from our Board of Trustees has lent support for this plan at the highest levels of our institution. And now, with the involvement of students, alumni, industry collaborators and government stakeholders, we can begin to implement the strategies that will advance these high ideals far into the future. The Clemson Elevate plan will be implemented over a 12-year period. Three pillars build on areas where the University already exhibits strength. This is for Now. This is for Ever. This is for Ole Miss. YOUR SUPPORT NOW COULD CHANGE THE UNIVERSITY FOR EVER With commanding momentum, we embark on a $1.5 billion fundraising initiative powered by decades of outstanding teaching, research, health care, service and innovation. We will also increase the flagship university’s endowment to $1 billion to strengthen it for generations to come. Just as our founders placed the cornerstone in the Lyceum in 1846 with a plan for a new university, the Now and Ever campaign lays out four areas of concentration that will define Ole Miss today and tomorrow: Building leaders Empowering academic excellence Fueling research and innovation Creating economic opportunity The timing is absolutely crucial, given the complex and varied challenges facing our state, country and world. With a champion’s mindset, our ambitious campaign focuses on whatever is required to embrace those challenges as opportunities.

The Foundation is the largest private funding source of rheumatology research and training programs in the United States. On average, more than 90 cents of every dollar donated is invested in a variety of programs and grant awards. Since its founding in 2008, the Foundation has funded more than $85 million in awards and grants. More 77% of Foundation grant recipients have gone on to receive funding from the National Institutes of Health. As the Foundation continues to grow, a regional development program was initiated to build and manage a major gift portfolio of 200+ donors and prospects rated between $25,000 and $1,000,000 in each geographic area along with attending and presenting at various medical association meetings. In addition, each regional officer is responsible for devising prospect strategy, gift solicitations, identifying new prospects to build a pipeline and new capacity, work with Board members and stakeholders, as well as maintain an aggressive travel schedule of 80%.
