I worked with McKinsey’s web application development group, creating software solutions for our community of 16,000 current Firm members, 20,000 former consultants and external clients I led high-performing development teams to design systems in a variety of areas including corporate financial performance, trading compliance, learning, and social networking. On a day to day basis, I partnered with clients, sponsors, users, developers and stakeholders to define and execute strategic goals for the department and each application. I led “Learn2Learn,” a global initiative aimed at increasing time spent in learning activities, personalizing training materials and leveraging external instructors and speakers. For the last three years, I also enjoyed being a Big Brother through a workplace mentoring partnership between Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York and McKinsey.
During the internship, I researched social networking behaviors of top high school students to anticipate technological needs and expectations of future McKinsey new hires. I particularly focused on the different uses of virtual communities and social networks to drive learning and professional interactions. I presented the findings of the research to McKinsey’s governing technology board. Additionally, I participated in the redesign of the “McKinsey Careers” website and trained recruiters to utilize the new application to improve content creation.
I assisted the lead engineer in developing the strategy for the construction of a new aluminum facility. I was responsible for the evaluation of available locations to optimize transportation from suppliers and customers. Additionally, I optimized the layout of the facility and equipment to reduce unutilized space and improve the ability of workers to complete their tasks. I lead negotiations with suppliers to select and purchase the necessary equipment for the new facility. Finally, I created AutoCAD models of the different products and equipment.
