I am an innovative, strategic, entrepreneurial digital transformation leader who has worked internationally (time spent in Australia, Egypt, Germany, Israel, Japan, UAE, and the USA), with a background in digital humanities, museums, libraries, collections, archaeology, heritage, telecoms & investment banking technology. I am an experienced voluntary board level leader and team member in the charity, museum and sports sectors and an active researcher holding professorial status. My research focuses on museology (applied digital, policy & public interaction), archaeology, digital democracy/strategy, marketing and content, ethics, linked open data, open access, open source, citizen science, crowd funding and wellbeing.
This was a newly created key strategic role at Westminster School and Westminster Under School, straddling both the academic and operations/administration of school life across the Charity. I worked with the Senior Management Team at Westminster School and the Under School, in order to support the smooth running of operations; directing and implementing the long-term strategy for extremely complex IT infrastructure, engagement operations, digital teaching and learning, including the effective and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence and pushing for ISO27001 certification. Under my direction, my team has implemented Midland HR's iTrent system in a 4 month timescale, installed new Palo Alto firewalls, commissioned a full cyber security review and begun remedial action, trialled Blackout Technologies application, begun process driven ITIL adoption, transition development team to full devops model, introduced digital PMO and started a large programme of infrastructure upgrades over the Summer period including leased iPads with full JAMF controls. A new strategic direction and governance model was in the process of being rolled out.
Responsible for leading Historic England’s Digital Strategy; implemented a robust new policy and governance model, driving the direction of a 3 year, £7.85 million programme of multiple work streams. This accelerated digital transformation of Historic England’s business and public facing services, is funded by the DCMS and Cabinet Office as part of the 2021 Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR21) and is focused on five core pillars - governance, skills, foundations, engagement and data.
Appointed to honorary status at the University of Stirling in March 2021 as part of their Cultural Heritage section.
Awarded Honorary Lecturer status in 2009 at the Institute of Archaeology. Head of Digital and IT, leading the museum through a period of digital transformation primarily through the use of open source technology. I was responsible for IT, DevOps, digital activity, imaging and picture library with challenges in each section to be addressed. I was on a dual contract as a research associate, submitting research to the last REF cycle, with applied digital humanities techniques on 10 grants, the majority as principal investigator (cumulative value c. £500,000), in the UK, USA and Egypt. My team introduced software for hardware asset management, help desk, instant messaging, revamped intranet, staff directory, annual leave booking system, change control, LEAN project management. I was technical lead for the implementation of Tessitura CRM and contactless donations as part of our drive to transform. Our research projects encompass Egyptian coffins, crowdsourcing, in gallery interactives, 3d technologies, text based analysis and innovative methods and are funded by the AHRC, GCRF, Cambridge University internal funding, Leverhulme Trust and British Academy. During the COVID pandemic, we implemented Tessitura CRM and ticketing, a new website and collections system (based off KINT CIIM) using Directus headless CMS, began 10GB site wide fibre upgrade and maintained BAU for a remote work force.
