About

Most people think they have a sleep problem. They don’t. They have a light problem. For years, I was the case study. As a teenager, I slept 4–5 hours a night — wired late into artificial light, addicted to technology, and completely disconnected from the rhythm of my natural environment. The result was predictable in hindsight: Anxiety, depression, weight gain, autoimmune issues — and, most importantly, a complete loss of direction during my most formative years. I thought the reasons were multifactorial — psychological, behavioural, nutritional — so I chased all of them. Over the following decade, I completed a degree in psychology, a Master’s in Nutrition, and post-graduate training in Functional Medicine. But none of it fully explained what I was experiencing. Until I found the missing variable. My biology wasn’t broken. My environment was. When I began exploring circadian biology, photobiology, and environmental signalling, a unifying mechanism became clear: Human physiology is fundamentally coordinated by light. Light is the primary regulator of circadian timing, hormonal rhythms, sleep architecture, and cellular repair. When that signalling system is disrupted — as it is in most modern environments — the downstream effects are systemic. Sleep disruption is simply one of the earliest and most visible symptoms. That realisation changed everything — and it defined the work I do today. I’m the Co-Founder of In Rhythm — where we’re restoring biologically coherent light environments within the home. Our goal is not to treat sleep directly, but to correct the upstream signals that regulate it by restoring the natural rhythms modern life has removed. Alongside this, I founded the Sleep Better Live Better Foundation, where I've focused on improving sleep outcomes in young people. In 2023, I led a research project across 500+ adolescents in 7 schools, demonstrating that simple changes to light behaviours can measurably improve sleep quality, consistency, and next-day performance. I’ve also co-founded and co-authored The CRD (Circadian Rhythm Disruption) Challenge — a global education initiative that has reached tens of thousands of people, and is now maintained by the Institute of Applied Quantum Biology (iAQB). This remains an emerging field. But the direction is clear: Nature doesn’t make mistakes. Modern life just stopped listening to its rhythm. When you restore the correct signals, the systems regulating our health begin to regulate themselves. Connect: [email protected] | https://www.inrhythm.earth/daniel

  • Chief Operating Officer at In Rhythm

I oversee the operational execution of In Rhythm — translating our vision of biologically aligned environments into scalable products, systems, and customer experiences. This spans product development, manufacturing, supply chain, and go-to-market infrastructure — ensuring everything we build is grounded in science and delivered with precision. We are building a new category of biologically coherent environments — restoring the relationship between modern environments and human biology. My role is to ensure that vision becomes reality, at scale. https://www.inrhythm.earth/daniel - The reality is, modern life has broken our relationship with natural light. For most of human history, our biology evolved in response to the rising and setting of the sun — regulating sleep, hormones, energy, and recovery. Today, we live under artificial lighting that is static, incomplete, and biologically mismatched. The result is widespread circadian disruption — impacting sleep, health, and performance globally. In Rhythm exists to solve this. We design lighting that restores the signals the body expects — aligning modern environments with human biology. Our focus is simple: → Restore natural light rhythms → Reduce biological mismatch → Make better sleep effortless Everything we build starts with a simple idea: Fix the light environment, and you fix the foundation of sleep. The Better Sleep Bulb was our first step. A simple bulb that follows the natural progression of the day: Day → functional white daytime light Evening → warm, reduced blue light Night → ultra-warm, low-intensity light It also reintroduces parts of the spectrum removed from modern LEDs — including infrared — while eliminating flicker and reducing excess nighttime light intensity. No apps, additional technology, or complex behaviour change. Just a simple environmental shift — room by room. We believe better sleep shouldn’t require more effort. It should come from living in the right environment.

Due to my early life experiences struggling with poor sleep and its associated mental and physical health challenges, it was always my wish to launch a non-profit entity that could pursue the development of educational materials and science-led interventions to support the sleep of children, adolescents and young adults. In 2021, the Sleep Better Live Better Foundation was registered with the aim to provide evidence-based education and tools that can support the health and well-being of our community through achieving better sleep. The foundation’s main focus is to highlight and address core issues affecting children’s and adolescents’ sleep through the promotion of research-backed education and other interventions that have been scientifically validated as having positive impacts on sleep health, growth, development and overall well-being. It has since developed partnerships with key stakeholders, including the Guernsey Educational Psychology Department and the island's educational institutions, to develop large-scale education and research interventions targetting young people in Guernsey in 2023 and beyond.
