I am an author, advocate, and aspiring academic looking to grapple with one of the world’s oldest and most widespread issues: poverty. I believe my generation can and should end extreme poverty for good. I encourage people to alleviate poverty in their communities through my first book, Uplift and Empower: A Guide to Understanding Extreme Poverty and Poverty Alleviation. I enjoy contributing to projects related to African diaspora finance, community-based development, and educational equity. I have worked on four continents (Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America), gaining professional experience in a diverse range of fields including asset management, investment banking, business development, public policy, technology, agriculture, and international relations, developing innovative solutions at the nexus of finance and social change. With a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Chicago and a master’s degree in International Finance and Development from SOAS, University of London, I have supported critical projects globally and raised awareness about poverty alleviation through my book, blog articles, and scholarship fund. During the pre-sale campaign for my first book, Uplift and Empower, I announced the start of a scholarship fund to support high school seniors in my hometown. Thanks to the generosity of my support network, the fund has awarded $11,000 (along with career-specific mentorship support) to 22 students throughout Marion County since 2020, with plans to continue fundraising and expanding in future years. To help the fund impact more students, you can learn more about donating here: https://upliftandempower.com/uplift-and-empower-scholarship-fund
The African Foundation for Development (AFFORD) is an international organisation established in 1994, with a mission “to expand and enhance the contributions Africans in the diaspora make to African development."
The SOAS Students’ Union (SU) is a charity run independently from the University. The SU supports SOAS students with advice on academic issues, represents students on Boards and Committees across SOAS, hosts events, runs student elections, supports and provides funding to student-run sports teams and societies, and manages student spaces such as the SU's shops and cafes.
Enough is Enough is a campaign which tackles issues around sexual and gender-based violence. The initiative provides consent workshops for all incoming students and runs a welfare contact program which trains people to be active bystanders and aims to create a consent culture on campus and beyond.
