I work at the intersection of platform engineering, reliability, and cloud infrastructure, with a strong focus on turning operational complexity into measurable, scalable systems. My experience includes building fleet-wide SLO and observability capabilities, designing multi-region Azure infrastructure with infrastructure as code, and improving deployment resilience through safer release patterns and rollback design. I am also passionate about lifting engineering capability more broadly, including creating structured enablement programs around SRE practices, operational ownership, and production readiness. More recently, I have been embedding AI-assisted workflows into platform operations to reduce manual effort across areas such as infrastructure delivery, incident analysis, and runbook generation. Earlier in my career, I worked in technical pre-sales and delivery across New Zealand, which gave me a strong commercial lens and the ability to connect technical decisions with business risk, cost, and strategic outcomes. * Governing, managing and improving cloud infrastructure across products and internal systems * Designing and architecting secure, scalable and reliable cloud systems and supporting services * Collaborating across engineering, product and leadership teams to align infrastructure decisions with business priorities
• Built organisation-wide reliability intelligence that connected SLO performance to repeat incident patterns, giving leadership a concrete way to reason about operational risk. • Created and ran an embedded SRE enablement program that moved reliability ownership into delivery squads, accelerating adoption of golden signals, production safeguards, and operational standards. • Built a self-maintaining internal developer platform from live infrastructure state, providing accurate service-level visibility into readiness, dependencies, and reliability posture. • Delivered major cloud cost reductions through independent identification, design, and execution of optimisation initiatives across platform and vendor footprint. • Implemented a zero-trust cloud access model with workload identity, just-in-time privileged access, approval workflows, and private connectivity, removing permanent production access. • Led the first large-scale disaster recovery validation exercise, exposed recovery weaknesses, and drove resilient design improvements supported by practical runbooks and team education. • Operationalised AI workflows for infrastructure, diagnostics, and documentation, turning ad hoc experimentation into repeatable engineering leverage.
• Built the organisation’s cloud platform foundations from first principles, creating an Infrastructure-as-Code estate in C#/.NET that supported a large, multi-service production environment across regional deployments and shared platform components. • Transformed deployment safety and speed by designing a blue-green release model with automated health gates, rollout controls, and fast rollback, shifting production releases from planned risk events into low-friction operational routine. • Created a composable CI/CD library spanning multiple engineering stacks, giving teams a standardised delivery framework while eliminating hardcoded infrastructure assumptions through dynamic environment resolution. • Put the observability foundations in place for the fleet, including standard health contracts, deployment markers, golden-signal baselines, and reusable monitoring patterns that raised operational consistency across squads. • Sustained a strong availability record for critical production services over multiple year
Production-grade home lab for network reliability, IaC, and AI-augmented operations R&D — not a hobby setup. • Built dual-WAN (Telstra + Optus 5G) Linux router VM with automated failover — Ubuntu, nftables, dynamic routing. Zero single-ISP dependency. • VLAN-segmented network: UniFi Wi-Fi 7 mesh with 6 GHz dedicated backhaul, Azure VPN sidecar for bonded failover path. • k3s cluster running Prometheus + Grafana observability stack, GitLab Runner, and IaC testing pipelines (Terraform + Pulumi) — same patterns as production, on personal infrastructure. • Live R&D platform for AI-augmented network operations: zero-downtime config changes, routing policy experimentation, and observability tooling before applying patterns at work.
• Led cloud modernisation during early phase of Vocus NZ's acquisition by 2degrees — re-platformed legacy workloads to Azure, introduced Infrastructure as Code, and standardised CI/CD delivery across all environments during a period of significant organisational change. • Delivered .NET Core microservices refactoring and shared library improvements, reducing operational overhead and improving deployment reliability across the platform estate. • Established Azure IaC foundations and deployment pipeline standards that aligned development, infrastructure, and operations teams through the merger transition.
• Ran full pre-sales cycles — discovery, live technical demos, proof-of-concept builds, RFP responses, and proposals — presenting to engineering leads and C-level executives across government, retail, telco, and utilities verticals in New Zealand. • Won and secured a 2-year contract with Foodstuffs NZ through the complete pre-sales cycle. Led a 4-person development team as Technical Lead — modernised the nationwide promotional portal used by every supplier and category manager across New Zealand's largest grocery cooperative, integrated with supermarket price and POS terminals. Full pre-sales-to-delivery ownership. • Coached client engineering teams on the Microsoft Well Architected Framework, led architectural redesign of legacy systems for cloud-native delivery, and delivered modernisation programs for Mercury NZ (formerly Trustpower), 2degrees, and multiple government agencies.
