Dr. Daniel Stelter is the founder of the German Discussion Forum Beyond the Obvious (www.think-beyondtheobvious.com) focusing on strategic and macroeconomic issues. Before, he worked from 1990 to 2013 as a consultant at The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), most recently as Senior Partner and Managing Director and member of BCG’s Executive Committee. From 2003 to 2011, he was in charge of BCG’s Corporate Strategy and Finance practice area. Besides advising companies, family offices and wealthy individuals on strategic and macroeconomic issues, Daniel Stelter has authored several books. „Accelerating out of the Great Recession“ won the getAbstract International Book Award 2010. „Die Schulden im 21. Jahrhundert“ and „Eiszeit in der Weltwirtschaft“ made the bestseller list for business books in Germany. „Das Märchen vom reichen Land“ reached the top 10 non-fiction list in Germany (SPIEGEL), showing that Germany is pursuing the wrong economic strategies, underinvesting in infrastructure and digitalization, and thereby undermining its future prosperity. „CORONOMICS – Nach dem Corona-Schock. Neustart aus der Krise“, published in May 2020, assessed the economic consequences of the pandemic and proposed a restart for the European economy. The book instantly reached the top 10 non-fiction list in Germany (SPIEGEL). „Ein Traum von einem Land – Deutschland 2040“, published in February 2021, developed a comprehensive reform agenda for Germany, building on the analysis of „Das Märchen vom reichen Land“. The book immediately made the bestseller list for business books in Germany. „Absturz – So retten wir Deutschland“, his latest book published in April 2026, delivers a rigorous diagnosis of Germany’s structural economic decline and a concrete program for renewal. Since autumn 2019, Daniel Stelter has produced the weekly podcast BTO – Beyond the Obvious on economic issues, which is regularly featured in the German podcast charts. Since June 2022 the podcast is featured by Handelsblatt. Together with Ulf Poschardt, Editor-in-Chief of WELT, he co-hosts the weekly podcast MEGA – Make Economy Great Again, covering German and European economic policy in candid, unscripted conversations. Daniel Stelter is also an internationally sought-after speaker. Dr. Stelter graduated in business administration (1988) and holds a doctorate in economics (1990), both from the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland).
