Namesake and benefactor Dr. Jacob Zabara developed vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) and cofounded Cyberonics (now Liva Nova). The Zabara Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit that supports R&D in bioelectric medicine (neurostimulation, neuromodulation, and beyond) through philanthropic and venture funding, in order to continue Dr. Zabara's legacy and advance the state of the field. The Zabara Foundation allocates targeted philanthropic dollars towards tool development, technology advancement, basic and mechanistic research, clinical translation, and other sponsorship -- with a long-term mindset of top-down acceleration of the biomedicine field, high risk tolerance, and maximization of both scientific and patient impact ROI.
