I am ultimately aiming to pursue a career in the Commons alongside the charity sector, working towards the eradication of domestic homelessness and pressuring other countries to follow suit. I will attend UCL covering each of my three core interests, PPE. As a sixth-form student studying history, maths and politics I have explored differing pathways which have all led me back to political science. Since discovering my seemingly innate passion for politics I have explored the subject by attending debates like “On the Future of Warfare” and “A Just Green Transition: Splitting the Bill” at the Night of Ideas with the French Institute, reading books across a wide range of topics e.g. “Broke: Fixing Britain’s Poverty Crisis”, “Is Shame Necessary” and “How Democracies Die”. I have also taken a secondary interest to economics and philosophy, reading books like “Doughnut Economics” and “From Modernism to PostModernism an Anthology” to create a broader breadth of skills to draw upon. On top of these explorations I follow podcasts like PoliticsJoe, The News Agents and The Rest Is Politics, which I was fortunate enough to be able to watch live at a student conference and submit a question to the panel including many party representatives. Additionally I have taken it upon myself to seek work experience with reputable economic and political think tanks like Resolution Foundation and the Fabian Society after being inspired by senior economist, Emily Fry.
Policy Deliberation, Canvassing and Leafleting in Camden. Counting agent in Westminster.
6 week volunteering experience helping to fundraise for global poverty and building my skills in retail.
Helping others pass GCSE Maths to a comfortable standard allowed me to pursue my interest in maths while also gaining experience helping others to achieve their goals. All of my tutees had aimed to pass maths and when being tutored, achieved this.
