Professional Experience: 1. Throughout high school I worked as a private math tutor for middle school and high school students, and I've continued this education work through my job at USC Readers Plus. 2. I've had plentiful experience dealing with customer service issues at my museum job (not to mention dealing with grumpy after school students). 3. During the last 6 months, I've had to learn how to administer my own business. Thus, through my Amazon job, I've learned how to organize my items through filing and sorting, as well as learning what separates a worthwhile investment from a marginal or losing one. Also, I've had to be responsive to customer concerns about the products I send, and I've began catering my inventory to certain repeat customers. Goals: 1. After my upcoming graduation in May, I'd like to find a way to simultaneously travel abroad and make a living. For example, I'm currently learning Japanese in the hopes that I can live there for a year and teach English. 2. My generous and open-minded disposition inclines me towards jobs that actively help others. 3. As a creative writing major at USC, I'd like to continue expanding my writing horizons, whether through journalism, fiction, editing, screenplay writing, or blogging. 4. I feel very comfortable in the classroom, and would like to continue teaching others, whether in a one-on-one setting or a class of 30. Preferably, I would teach the humanities anywhere from middle school through college level. Specialties: customer service, writing/editing, teaching, tutoring, online retail, literature
I browse through thrift stores, yard sales, swapmeets, and book or cd stores to find valuable items I can sell on Amazon. I use the Fulfillment program to send all of my inventory to their warehouse, where they ship it out for me. I work with a longtime friend as a partner in the enterprise, and we've built our inventory to around 700 items as of April 2, 2011.
I worked 13-15 hours a week at Norwood Elementary School while attending USC as a work-study job. I met with 4 K-5 students that were behind grade standards for two hours each per week. Also, I helped run an after school program in the afternoons that provided homework help and enriching activities to a group of 20 3rd graders.
I assisted museum patrons with directions and exhibit information, and also made sure everyone entered with their ticket. I made PA calls announcing IMAX theater attractions, and monitored the theater as well. In addition, I dealt with customer service complaints and customer accomodation during special events like the visitation of astronomers or museum donors.
