      Jun 2020 - Present · 6 yrs 2 mos

I have been Chair of the Connecticut Bar Association Sports and Entertainment Law Section since June 2020, before which I was Secretary of the Section (2019-20) and was previously an Education Liaison and longtime Executive Committee member. In my role as Chair, I convene Section meetings and Section Executive Committee meetings. I also help, in consultation with the EC, with the planning of Section programming and in monitoring and advocating for Section and CBA policy on issues of interest to the Section. The Section has grown in activity since I took over as Chair. We have now had at least four educational or social programs in the 2020-21 bar year on topics such as sportswashing, collegiate athlete compensation issues, and high school/collegiate sports during Covid. I am also proud to have started, in conjunction with the Executive Committee, a series of legal education programs on race and gender issues in sports and entertainment. Our first program in the series, on transgender athletics, is scheduled for this spring.

    • Legislative Liaison, Intellectual Property Section
      Sep 2015 - Jun 2020 · 4 yrs 10 mos

In my role as Legislative Liaison, I was responsible for monitoring federal and state legislation related to intellectual property, broadly defined. I would also keep Section members and Executive Committee members informed of both federal legislative and regulatory changes relating to the US Patent and Trademark Office and the US Copyright Office. I also lobbied for, and was successful in creating, the Intellectual Property Section's Legislative Committee, which I chaired from 2019-20. In that role, and in conjunction with the Vice Chair and Members, we discussed, debated and drafted policy positions on legislative issues such as the Copyright in Small Claims Enforcement Act, the STRONGER Patents Act, and a state bill on college athlete compensation for use of their name, image or likeness, among others. I remain an active member of the Section's Executive Committee, in which I am currently a member without portfolio.

I was selected for the prestigious Presidential Fellowship in the Connecticut Bar Association, being a detailed fellow for the Intellectual Property Section. In that capacity, I took part in several leadership development classes and exclusive continuing legal education seminars that honed my leadership skills and gave me insight into areas of both substantive law and day to day practice.

Prior to that, I was an Associate Editor of MER and an active Committee member. The Middle East Committee is the committee of the ABA which monitors, educates and advocates on legal, human rights and rule of law issues in the MENA region. In my capacity as Co-Chair, I help plan programming and supervise the conduct of that programming, I set the policy priorities for the Committee, I convene our monthly meetings and I manage the activities of our Vice Chairs.
