As a child I was already interested in constructing things. I gathered my first hands on construction experience in my early teens and went on to become a professional carpenter after a 3 year apprenticeship in Berlin, Germany. After gathering further hands on experience in carpentry and various other fields of construction I went on to study structural engineering in Berlin where I graduated 2007 with honors. Since then I have worked on multiple projects in Germany, Vietnam and Cambodia, mainly in the areas of reinforced concrete and structural steel design. In addition I have taught several years as a guest lecturer at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin in the field of reinforced concrete. Similar to architecture I understand structural engineering as an art. A good structural design will not only be safe. I will be aesthetic and go hand in hand with the architectural design intent. It will be durable considering environmental impacts over the lifetime of a building. It will be economic which requires the smart use of materials and structural systems and lastly it will be buildable.
