Undertaking a research project in the University of Cambridge Department of Clinical Neurosciences, working in the lab and under supervision of Dr András Lakatos. During the course of my project I will be looking into regulators of actin filament and cytoskeletal rearrangement with regard to astrocytes in the Central Nervous System. Techniques used: - Cell Culture - Immunostaining - Microscopy (light, immunofluorescent, confocal, super resolution) - Gel Electrophoresis - Western Blot - bacterial plasmid amplification Data analysis software used: - MATLAB - R - Microsoft Excel - Fiji This was possible thanks to successful applications for funding from St John’s College, Cambridge, granted for the purpose of students wishing to undertake academic research projects.
Commodore is the most senior role within the committee framework of Cambridge University Yacht Club, with overall responsibility for club operations and activities. - Head of the Club: Overall responsibility for all the activities of CUYC; authorises all activities, finances and external communication on behalf of the Club. - Safety: Overall responsibility for ensuring the correct discharge of duty of care and Club safety policy implementation. - Committee Chair: Chairs all meetings of CUYC Committee and General Meetings of the Club. - Development: Organisation of long-term development plans for the Club.
This role comprises several varied areas of responsibility within the Yacht Club: - Operations Section Management: Authorises the activities of all Operations Officers and ensures they have details of their responsibilities and that they are properly informed and supported in their positions. - Legal: Ensures CUYC obtains and sustains insurance policies appropriate to Club activities. Monitors details of charter agreements. Manages contractual disputes with charterers. Liaises with Club legal contacts. - Documentation: Ensures CUYC Regulations, CUYC Crew Register, Safety Policy, Skipper Manual, Agenda and Minutes of Committee Meetings and any other key Club documentation stay up-to-date.
Responsible for management of finances and banking, and compilation of annual accounts for review. Oversees the work of the Pursers who handle transactions and day to day accounting for the Yacht Club.
