Telecommunications and Electronics Engineer with 40 years of hands-on experience in the design, development, integration, optimisation and troubleshooting of telecommunications systems, electronic equipment and network infrastructure. My professional journey has taken me through network operators, equipment vendors, system integrators and research and development environments, allowing me to gain practical experience across multiple technologies, disciplines and generations of telecommunications systems. I have been fortunate to work with talented engineers on projects ranging from embedded electronics and FPGA development to large-scale mobile and IP networks. My core strength is the ability to understand complex systems across multiple layers. I am equally comfortable discussing RF propagation, modulation, coding and synchronisation, FPGA and embedded software development, IP networking, virtualisation, cloud-native architectures, network automation and service orchestration. This broad perspective often helps bridge communication gaps between specialised engineering teams and accelerate problem resolution. My experience includes mobile networks from 2G to 5G, O-RAN architectures, transport networks, SDN and NFV, network management and orchestration, embedded Linux, real-time operating systems, digital signal processing, FPGA design, protocol implementation and carrier-grade system integration. More recently, I have also been following developments in Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN), satellite communications and the increasing role of automation, machine learning and artificial intelligence in telecommunications. Throughout my career, I have enjoyed working on technically challenging projects where practical engineering judgement, curiosity and attention to detail are essential. I believe that successful solutions are built on a solid understanding of fundamentals, open collaboration and a willingness to remain hands-on when needed. I am always interested in discussing new technologies, challenging engineering problems and opportunities where experience, technical depth and a multidisciplinary approach can help transform ideas into reliable and successful products, systems and services.
Design and integration of end-to-end HF, VHF, UHF and Satcomm communications systems over ATM and IP networks for defensive and offensive electronic warfare.
Validation of 77 GHz automotive radar ICs at system level, including RF measurement and characterization across diverse use cases. Developed, adapted, and debugged firmware for ARM multicore architectures using Lauterbach/Trace32. Created and maintained automated MATLAB test frameworks for measurement control, data collection, and reporting.
Development of automation requirements, scripts, VHDL and C programming for O-RAN Alliance compliant O-RU and O-DU units with the purpose of automated cellular network deployment, densification and real-time RF conditions and performance monitoring. Work includes RF performance monitoring FPGA modules, O-DU and RIC containers, and assessment of O-RAN architectures for future 5G-NTN integration.
Develop the 4G/5G RAN section of the E2E lab using Rakuten O-RAN Alliance compliant RU equipment and DU/CU software running on virtualised infrastructure. Write test procedures and cases for all O-RAN interfaces Fronthaul, E1, F1-C, F1-U, X2-C, X2-U, Xn-C, Xn-U, S1-MME, S1-U, N2, N3 at all protocol levels. Execution of E2E functional and performance tests.
