About

I take people inside the world of sound with the people who shape it. I’m the creator and host of the podcast Twenty Thousand Hertz and the founder of Defacto Sound, a sound design studio trusted by the world’s top brands, filmmakers, and streamers. Through every project, I help creative teams bring their stories to life with exceptional sound, from concept to final mix. My goal is to reveal the emotional power of audio and make every frame, story, and brand feel more alive. If you’re building something extraordinary and want it to sound extraordinary, I’d love to connect.

At Defacto Sound, I lead a focused team that moves quickly, collaborates deeply, and delivers handcrafted sound at the highest level. Our goal is to make every frame feel more alive through sound. I created Twenty Thousand Hertz to explore the world’s most iconic and fascinating sounds. Every episode blends deep research, personal storytelling, and cinematic sound to reveal how sound connects us to memory, identity, and meaning. The show has become a trusted resource across the creative industry and for curious listeners alike. Each story is designed to reveal something overlooked, to reframe the familiar, or to evoke a feeling you did not expect. It is not just about sound. It is about how we connect through it. 🎧 20k.org

I started dallastaylor.mp3 as a video extension of my podcast Twenty Thousand Hertz because I know not everyone is a podcast listener. This video series is meant to interrupt the scroll for everyday people, to spark curiosity in those who might not have thought sound was interesting until they pressed play. Like Julia Child and Anthony Bourdain stepping out of the kitchen to show the art and beauty of food, I stepped out from behind the mic and in front of the camera to show the art and beauty of sound. Each week I take viewers behind the scenes of places, projects, and people rarely seen. From the mix rooms of Saturday Night Live and Jeopardy! to Disney Imagineering, Apple, Major League Baseball, and beyond. This series is ongoing, spanning my own sound projects through Defacto Sound, iconic venues like Red Rocks, and unique experiences like Cirque du Soleil, with much more to come. Strategically, every long-form YouTube video is crafted as a cinematic hero story. From there, three to seven shorts are made from each video, natively designed for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, Reddit, Threads, and Facebook. It is one story told many ways, meant to meet people wherever they are. At its heart, dallastaylor.mp3 is a lifelong pursuit to uncover sound from every possible angle. It is a way to expand my own work, give back to the creative community, and leave a lasting archive for future people to discover this extraordinary art form and the inspiring people who shape it. ▶️ youtube.com/@dallastaylor.mp3
