Daekwon Park is a licensed architect (New York) and researcher focusing on the intersection between design, material technology, and environmental science with an emphasis on how it influences the way the built environment is designed, built, and occupied. Before joining Syracuse Architecture as Assistant Professor, Daekwon has been engaging in a wide range of teaching and research opportunities at Harvard, MIT Media Lab, Rhode Island School of Design and École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. During this time, he has actively collaborated with Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering (Harvard), Design Robotics Group (Harvard GSD), Responsive Environment and Artifacts Lab (Harvard GSD), High-Low Tech Group (MIT Media Lab), Changing Places Group (MIT Media Lab), and Media and Design Laboratory (EPFL). He has extensive experience in large scale sports and entertainment facility design and has practiced in various countries around the world including USA, Australia, China, and Korea. During the appointment as director in Korea for Populous (formerly HOK Sport), he has managed all the projects in Korea including the Ansan Baseball Dome, Gimpo Sports Town Masterplan, and the 2014 Incheon Asian Games Main Stadium. As the founder/ co-founder of multi-disciplinary design practice meta-territory_studio and SISO (Systematic Input Soft Output), he actively participates in various competition, exhibition, and publication activities. Daekwon has served as Project Manager at the Material Processes and Systems Group at Harvard GSD and was the recipient of the Jack and Elizabeth Meyer University Scholarship from Harvard University and the Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship from University of Illinois. He is currently a Faculty Research Fellow at the Syracuse Center of Excellence; serves as peer reviewer for the Journal of Civil Engineering and Architecture; and invited as guest editor for the Automation in Construction journal.
