I study the evolutionary and mechanistic aspects (at the genome level) that allowed for the appearance of bacterial metabolism, including its genes, enzymes, and metabolites. I am mainly focused on the group of Actinobacteria to explore evolutionary hypotheses experimentally and computationally. As a further step to address these questions, the identification of novel anticancer and antibiotic natural products from cryptic biosynthetic gene clusters in bacteria is very important. I have also dedicated my research to the chemical signals that affect Streptomyces’ natural product production and how we can use organic chemistry, chemical biology, and synthetic biology to accelerate access to cryptic biosynthetic gene clusters.

I coordinate the review process, facilitate communication between authors and reviewers, and make decisions on the publication, acceptance, rejection or request for modification of manuscripts, always ensuring compliance with ethical standards in scientific research.

Develop and teach specialized courses on genome mining, focusing on the discovery of biosynthetic gene clusters, pathway prediction, and the application of bioinformatics tools. Design and deliver curriculum tailored to diverse audiences, including researchers, students, and industry professionals. Provide hands-on training in genome analysis, emphasizing practical skills in metagenomics, data interpretation, and the use of software platforms for genomic research. Continuously update course content to reflect the latest advances in the field, ensuring relevance and applicability.
