I manage students on my caseload by writing Individualized Education Plans, ensuring that they are compliant and up to date with yearly IDEA and DESE compliance changes. I then coordinate with cross-functionally to ensure appropriate progress is made toward student goals both academically and socially. I oversee the schedule of 12 para professionals, three of which I complete annual reviews and disciplinary action on. I teach 6 classes, which include prepping lessons and teaching content day to day. I oversee my buildings data team, looking at specific assessment data and tracking/troubleshooting student data with other teachers within my department. I also run my district's Professional Learning Community for my cohort, which includes teachers from all the Parkway high Schools. We are in the process of developing a data system that will track individual student data but also pull it into both a school view and a district view for comparison. I sponsor the Sparkler Cheerleaders. A group of students with special needs who cheer with the varsity squad. I collaborate with the varsity coach to make this a positive and rewarding experience for both the Sparklers and the cheerleaders. My first year taking on this role my squad was awarded the Special Ambassador award, Special School District's highest honor for the positive influence the program had on my school community. Finally, I am a student council sponsor. I am responsible for the class of 2018. We plan and coordinate various events throughout the school ranging from something as small to putting on a school assembly or dance, to hosting Special Olympics and Day of Service. This event partners with individuals, small businesses, non-profits, and corporations in the community to allow all students and teachers within the school to give back to the community.
