About

I am a serial entrepreneur and an expert in real time systems architectures (for real). I have over 40 patents in realtime 3D, VR/AR, AI/ML and optics. I invented 3D portals, movable crates and enterable, drivable vehicles in games. In 1987, I created "The Colony", the very first realtime 3D adventure game/shooter and the precursor to today's first-person shooters. The game won the "Best Adventure Game of the Year" award from MacWorld Magazine. In 1988, I used these technologies to create a virtual set and virtual camera system used by James Cameron for the movie The Abyss. I founded Virtus Corporation in 1990 and developed Virtus Walkthrough, the first real-time 3D design application for personal computers. This won the first "Breakthrough Product of the Year" from MacUser and beat Adobe Photoshop for PC Computing Best Drawing Tool of the year. It became the standard set design tool in Hollywood for ten years including the shot-by-shot design of the first "Mission Impossible" movie directed by Brian DePalma. Tom Clancy (the author) loved the game so he and I founded Red Storm Entertainment together where we created the hit game "Rainbow Six". We sold Red Storm to Ubisoft. My interview about "The Colony" and "Rainbow Six" are featured in the FPS (First Person Shooter) documentary available here: https://fpsdoc.com/ I was the Chief Architect of the Open Croquet Project, where I worked with Alan Kay (Turing Award winner), Andreas Raab, and David P. Reed (designer of UDP and architect of TCP/IP). I was CTO and co-founder of Teleplace, Inc. providing a collaboration platform developed for enterprises. As a Senior Fellow at Lockheed Martin I focused on next generation human centric computing and collaboration. I developed many key technologies including extreme wide field of view lenses for AR (over 140° field of view) and immersive VR (180° field of view with a single lens). I was the designer of the DoD Virtual World Framework – a real time collaboration system based on the Croquet protocol. We spun out Wearality Corporation to take the wide field of view lenses to market. I founded Croquet Corporation with a number of members of Alan Kay's Viewpoints Research group where we brought the Croquet tech to market. I recently started a stealthy realtime blockchain project. More to come soon.
