Producer / director CRISTIANO BORTONE's activity includes features, documentaries and television programs through his companies Orisa produzioni (www.orisa.it), Altri occhi and Yiyi Pictures. Among his films as director, “Red like the sky” (2006) won an Italian film price David di Donatello and more than 25 international festivals including San Paolo, Sydney, Montreal, Tel Aviv, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Vienna; "Coffee" (2016) premiered as Special event at Venice days and was nominated for the China media award; "Il mio posto è qui (My place is here)" (2024) co-directed with Daniela Porto won as Best director and Best actress at Bif&st and was awarded a Silver ribbon award (the award from the Italian film journalists association) for the cast and for several weeks was most seen Italian film on Paramount+. Among his films as a producer, award-winning "Saimir" (2004) or more commercial films like comedy “Maria, ihm schmeckt’s nicht!” (2010) a co-production with Claussen Putz Filmproduktion and Constantin Film that topped at German box office with more than 1,5M admissions. “Marina” by Oscar-nominated director Stijn Coninx, co-produced with Eyeworks Film and TV / Warner (Belgium) and the Dardenne brothers (Les Films du Fleuve), Special event at Rome International Film Festival was a success at Belgium box office. The Sino-Italian "The Italian recipe", a co-pro with Chinese leading comedy powerhouse Kaixin Mahua, was released in China on more than 9.000 screens and achieved more than 90M viewers on the local streamers. In 2006 he was nominated “Best producer” at the Italian Silver Ribbon for the film “Saimir” and again in 2016 at the Italian David di Donatello for the film "Coffee". Bortone also produced several award winning documentaries and several quality programs for the main Italian TV channels such as: Ritratti d’autore (Tele+), A noi piace corto (Studio Universal), Italia Amore Mio (Rai 3), Skylab (Sky) and Diario di Classe (Rai 3 e Discovery Real Time). He has an intense teaching and tutoring activity all over the world. In 2013 he taught production and directing at the Beijing Film Academy. He is co-founder and Managing director of the Euro-Asian producers association Bridging Visions www.bridgingvisions.org partner of several festivals and film institutions such as EFM, Marché du Film, Hongkong Filmart, China Golden Rooster, Red Sea film fund, German FFA, Berlin Medienboard, etc.
