About

Experienced Bioinformatics Analyst and Developer with 20+ years of expertise in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data analysis, workflow development, and collaborative scientific research. Currently serving as Bioinformatics Developer at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) in Barcelona, Spain, within the Bioinformatics Core Facility. I specialize in analyzing NGS data, building reproducible and scalable pipelines, and delivering training on NGS and workflow reproducibility. I have a strong background in genomics, transcriptomics (mRNA-seq, microRNA-seq), epigenomics (ChIP-seq, RIP-seq), metagenomics, and variant analysis. Throughout my career, I have participated in over 100 research projects, including three international genome initiatives (melon, bean, and lynx), contributing to more than 45 scientific publications. I am a Nextflow enthusiast and advocate for open science: I develop and maintain reproducible pipelines using Nextflow, Docker, and Singularity, all of which I publish on GitHub. I regularly teach courses on NGS and reproducibility, having contributed to training programs at leading institutions such as VIB, SIB, CRG, and ELIXIR, to empower researchers through better computational practices. My programming skills span several languages, including Java, Python, R, shell scripting, PHP, and Perl. I am experienced in high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud-based environments, and I am deeply committed to supporting research through robust bioinformatics solutions. Since 2025 I've been a passionate user of agentic AI and LLMs experimenting with both commercial and open source local solutions.

    • Temporary Acting Head
      Jan 2015 - Mar 2015 · 3 mos

I managed the Unit until the arrival of the new Unit head. I followed the ongoing projects, evaluated the new requests and participated to meeting for presenting the Unit and for setting up new collaborations.

  • CEINGE Biotecnologie Avanzate ()
    • PhD, bioinformatician
      Mar 2009 - Mar 2010 · 1 yr 1 mo

During this period I personally contributed to a web application to guide the finishing of a genomic sequencing project, plus I was involved in the sequencing of two bacterial genomes by using the 454 GS-FLX platform for high throughput sequencing.

    • PhD student
      Feb 2005 - Mar 2009 · 4 yrs 2 mos

Internship for the PhD in molecular medicine at CE.IN.GE labs within the bioinformatic group directed by professor G. Paolella. My studies dealt with the detection of repeated sequences sharing a common secondary structure. In this period I conceived, installed and used a number of bioinformatic tools to solve biological problems and to detect putative regulatory small RNAs. Complex pipeline written in PHP language have been created to make predictions and genomic annotations.
