I always had an interest in energy harvesting and how new technologies transition from discovery to application. In this role as a Materials Scientist i developed technology for 2D and 3D printed solar cells, thermoelectric generators, super-capacitors and batteries, photodetectors and sensors for IoT applications based on coating, inkjet printing, and other additive manufacturing techniques. My main activities included the design of experiments, data collection and analysis, the formation of key scientific figures, writing scientific manuscripts and research proposals, and presenting results in international conferences and workshops. I coordinated and collaborated with multidisciplinary and international teams to create richer scientific stories that can describe the functional processes and materials in the different devices, and to plan out strategies to improve their efficiency and stability. This led to 9 publications in different research journals, 5 conference presentations, 3 patent applications, 2 research proposals and 1 industrial collaboration. A quick overview of my projects include: - Formulation of 16% efficient printable photoactive inks based on low-toxicity environmentally friendly solvents. - Design of inkjet printed organic solar cells with transparency values over 50% and efficiencies over 12%. - Formulation a conductive ink for humidity resistant photovoltaics. - Engineering of solar cell interfaces with improved charge transfer based on solvent additives. - Development of self-powered system for sensing of dopamine and uric acid in biomedical aplications - Design of a 3D printing system for soft functional materials with 1µl resolution. We used this system to create metastructures for E-skin devices, thermoelectric generators, and soft solid-state batteries and supercapacitors. - Development perovskite single microcrystal on-chip growth strategies for direct-printing of photodetectors and transistors.
