Full multi-billion $P&L responsibility for Nokia's consumer business in UK & Ireland. Lead the business and organizational turn-around of Nokia in the UK and Ireland. Renewed the country structure (from 2,500 people down to 700) to create an agile, engaged, confident team with a ‘start-up’ culture. Consolidated multiple sites to a new site in Paddington, London. By creating a strong, 'can-do' team, coupled with deep partner support we re-launched Microsoft Windows Phone via the Nokia Lumia portfolio and grew the Windows Phone smartphone share from 0.5% in November 2011 to >11% in December 2013. Execute Nokia's strategy to re-energize the brand and return Nokia to a strong position in the smartphone market whilst retaining leadership in Mobile Phones. CEO appointed Global Site Leader to drive the challenger behaviour and cultural change across the entire business which was needed to reinvigorate the business and team performance.
Turkey is regarded by Nokia as a strategic priority market with high potential for consumer services and revenue growth. Complex market influenced by government and changing socio-political dynamics. Under my leadership the renewed local team and strategy grew the business to become one of the top performing markets globally. • Exceeded all business targets (volume & value share, active user, OPEX, Gross Margin) for 2009/2010. • P&L responsibility for Turkish business >$1bn sales • Grew Nokia market value share from 10% (Jan ’09) to 79% (Feb ’10) in the Smartphone segment • Redesigned & implemented the Nokia Distribution partner landscape to allow closer consumer contact • Restructured & renewed the local team with new talent (total 60 people) to improve internal integration and customer focus • Negotiated with Ministers on Nokia’s Foreign Direct Investment agenda. Nokia Middle East North Africa is a significant region for mobile device & services growth which is serviced by a cross functional team of 200 people in seven sales units covering 22 markets via an open distribution model. • Led the local implementation of the renewed Nokia vision to become the leader in mobile internet consumer services. This is achieved through cross functional integration within Sales Units resulting in impactful, consumer focused device & service retail launches. Lead the Apple iPhone strike back strategy.
Charging Solutions was a business entity responsible for the development and commercial success of a portfolio of network solutions that enabled mobile operators offer pre-paid services to their base. • Full P&L responsibility for prepaid business revenue (€30m pa). Carefully managed OPEX to achieve 80% net contribution. Increased customer base from 35 to 45 customers in India, Middle East and Africa • Global responsibility managing & innovating the pre-paid network solution that was customized for growth operators in developing markets. • Responsible for cross-functional department of 100 people.
