I'm passionate about connecting truly effective functional ingredients with support for more sustainable forms of agriculture. That's why I founded NU, an all-natural energy drink brand dedicated to delivering clean, sustainable energy from the guayusa leaf, with gut-loving benefits from water kefir. NU was inspired by the indigenous communities of the Ecuadorian Amazon, particularly their daily form of caffeine - the guayusa leaf. I'm passionate about it for two reasons - first, it delivers a uniquely feel-good energy, calmer but just as alert as any other source of caffeine. Second, guayusa is grown differently. Rather than cutting down rainforest to grow a monocrop, indigenous communities in the Ecuadorian Amazon have been growing guayusa for centuries in managed rainforest gardens that reflect tbe natural biodiversity of the region. I'm passionate about supporting this form of agriculture, particularly as an alternative to the slash and burn mono-cropping that has driven so much of the deforestation in the Amazon. And doing this while creating high quality functional ingredients seems like a win-win for everyone. Our energy drinks are crafted in small batches in Louth, using only herbal infusions, real juices & gut-friendly cultures from water kefir fermentation. It's one of the world's first fermented energy drinks, and one of the first to be powered by guayusa. Check out www.nuinfusions.com to learn more or reach out directly - always open to ways we can collaborate!
You might not have heard about guayusa just yet, but NU is here to change that. The caffeinated leaf of a holly tree found in the Amazon rainforests of Ecuador, guayusa has been a central part of local indigenous cultures for centuries. Each morning before sunrise, they gather as a community to drink an infusion of guayusa and start their day with energy, focus & enthusiasm. Guayusa's unique blend of caffeine and antioxidants offers a more sustained and calm energy, without the jitters or crash of other caffeine sources. It is also grown differently. Unlike monocrops, guayusa is organically grown in indigenous Amazonian farming systems where a diversity of plants thrive together in a way that maintains soil health and biodiversity, as well as the food & economic security of local indigenous communities. At NU we believe that doing good should feel good. Our mission is to use guayusa to connect the consumer need for calm and focused energy with the need to support more sustainable forms of agriculture in the Amazon. Our hero product is an all-natural RTD energy drink, combining the feel-good energy of guayusa with the gut health benefits of water kefir, all with only 5 calories per can and zero artificial ingredients.
I co-founded this consulting platform with five other consultants in 2016, to offer the service of System Dynamics Modelling to clients in the public and private sector. System Dynamics is a methodology developed in MIT in the 1950s which uses computer simulation models and facilitated multi-stakeholder workshops to support decision-making in areas such as strategy, capacity planning, and organisational change. We have won clients such as the Northern Irish Civil Service, Northern Ireland's Strategic Investment Board, think tanks such as The Productivity Insights Network, and non-profits such as the New York-based Sustainability Laboratory as well as some organisational design agencies. I was awarded the Barry Richmond Award for one project creating online educational material on system dynamics.
Silico is enabling the rapid creation of Digital Twins of the Enterprise through Business Process Simulation (BPS). Through powerful, forward-looking process simulation, enterprises can analyse and streamline their processes by making data-driven decisions that fuel business growth and customer satisfaction while simultaneously reducing costs. Using Silico, companies can simulate the impact of decisions virtually before implementing them in the real world and unlock the benefit of FutureSight with minimal risks, costs, and time. As Customer Success Manager, I worked with clients to use Silico's custom-built software (based on the system dynamics paradigm) to create these Digital Twins so that they could test their decisions in a virtual environment before implementing them in the real world.
Helping public sector clients overcome complex social policy challenges through the use of system dynamics modelling, service design, and behavioural insights.
Established in 2014, the Innovation Lab sits within the Northern Irish Department of Finance. The Lab uses behavioural insights, service design, and system dynamics modelling to respond to challenges where effective service provision for the public has proven most difficult. It aims to improve public services by using fresh approaches to problem-solving and by demonstrating a culture of innovation within the public sector. System Dynamics is a methodology developed in MIT in the 1950s which uses computer simulation models and facilitated multi-stakeholder workshops to support decision-making in areas such as strategy, capacity planning, and organisational change. As System Dynamics Consultant in The Lab, my role is to: • help clients leverage data and expert opinion to clarify thinking around complex public policy issues, on topics such as childhood obesity and healthcare capacity planning • spread the use of system dynamics modelling to other civil servants, through a 6 month training program that I have co-developed and which is currently being delivered to statisticians in the department of health. • foster a culture of innovation in the public sector by demonstrating new approaches to problem-solving, including behavioural economics and service design.
