  • Technical Consultant at BAE Systems
    Jan 1999 - Feb 2001 · 2 yrs 2 mos

Whilst working at BAE SYSTEMS I won a chairman’s award for the development of a content management system, The CMS was used in America, Europe and the UK. I designed the system to be simple and easy to use so that any PC user could add content to the corporate intranet site, including movies, text and images. A key feature of the software I developed guaranteed that content was automatically spell-checked and formatted into the appropriate company style(s). This management system was one of the tools I used as web editor for BAE SYSTEMS at the Paris air show. I was responsible for managing up-to-date news reports on the web and intranet site, including writing copy, editing information and proofreading submissions. This role further included overseeing the timely delivery by the web solutions company, of the hardware and software needed to supply the internet site live to the air show stand. Working closely with corporate communications, I created the BAE SYSTEMS intranet "look and feel". This large, complex network is accessed by more than 100,000 people around the world, incorporating in excess of 100,000 pages. The site requires stringent levels of security access, with each individual business unit setting up multi-tier structures. The design and implementation work that I undertook ensured that the appropriate house styles could be applied and updated consistently across the entire Intranet.
