  • Software Engineer at NiceJob Inc
    Oct 2019 - Apr 2021 · 1 yr 7 mos

Building SaaS tools to help small and medium-sized businesses grow their online reputations without huge marketing budgets. Giving the little guy a leg-up. Remote software team based in Canada, UK, Norway, Nigeria and Indonesia. I lead the frontend portion of our 10-person software team and have implemented the following projects: - Addition of major features and functionality to NiceJob’s core web application. - Transitioning the React codebase from JavaScript to TypeScript, and from class-based components to functional components with hooks. This has led to more predictable code that is easier to test, and a near-elimination of run-time errors. - Introduction of tests and test-driven development. - Creation of an atomic design component library from the ground up, fully documented in Storybook, as part of the team’s transition from Webflow to Figma design tools. - Introduction of Apollo GraphQL hooks. - Robust peer review process for pull requests. - Design and implementation of an efficient and effective hiring process. The candidates are sent a standardized code challenge and are asked to share a Loom screencast in which they walk through their code submission in a specified timeframe. This process has allowed the company to hire the best engineers while containing the amount of resources spent on hiring. Though my focus is frontend, I work across the stack from the React application to the backend microservices and the NoSQL database with GCP Datastore.
