Colin is a Professional Civil Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng) with more than 10 years of experience and a career passion for the development, design, construction, and management of civil projects.
The following Key Performance Areas and related duties: • Manage the implementation of maintenance and rehabilitation programmes in line with approved budget allocations and prioritisation. • Project Management and implementation of municipal infrastructure. • Evaluation of tenders and contracts. • Managing a team of professionals. • Providing input for the compilation and prioritisation of the operational and capital budget for maintenance and rehabilitation of roads, stormwater, lane markings, signs, street furniture parking areas, rivers, fences, guardrails and all services ancillary to roads and stormwater. • Implementing maintenance and rehabilitation programmes in line with approved budget allocations and prioritisation • Managing the issuing of wayleaves and permits to service authorities and contractors • Providing technical input into term tenders for goods and services • Managing the implementation of capital and operational projects • Liaising with depots, contractors and professionals to ensure maintenance programmes and technical standards are complied with.
I’m responsible for the following duties: Development facilitation of services and technical input related to new developments including engineering drawings and building plan approval
I was appointed as a Senior Engineering Technician where I was also responsible for following daily duties and roles: the evaluation of Land Use applications, the calculation of Bulk Infrastructure Contribution Levies, designing of civil services and distribution way leave and land use application to subordinates. I would also monitor fibre optic civil contractors on the performance of their work. I would attend to site meeting municipal project and private projects where I would answer questions and check the quality of the work, eg ensure work is done to approve civil plans.
I am responsible for the activities and procedures associated with analyzing basic civil engineering needs and requirements of proposed civil engineering services in terms of SANS 1200:2010, NEMA 107/1998 amended June 2010, Road Access Guidelines, Guidelines for the provision of engineering services for residential townships, Municipal Bylaws – 15/2007, 17/2007, 18/2007, 01/2008 and Municipal standards by: • Evaluating the scope of the proposed work • Compile survey data required for the design process • Generate designs\drawings of the proposed works • Draft project specifications • Compile a draft costing for the project • Setting out of proposed works for the department who is going to be responsible for the construction. • Monitors and evaluates the activities for compliance with municipal and National standards. • Provide technical advice and guidance when required. • Generate as-built data after the project has been completed
