Why I do what I do. My father went through two kidney transplants, spending more than eight years on waiting lists. His story had a happy ending. Many don't. That experience shaped a question I've been working on ever since: why are we losing so many donated organs simply because we run out of time? Apersys is an ETH Zurich spin-off - originally the Liver4Life project at Wyss Zurich - building a device that keeps donor livers viable outside the body for up to seven days. Today's standard is around 24 hours. With more time, clinicians can examine, treat, and potentially recover organs that would otherwise be discarded. The longer-term promise: turning emergency transplants into scheduled procedures, with better outcomes for patients. My background is in R&D leadership across medical devices and life sciences. I've built teams, led complex R&D programs, and brought devices through regulatory clearance. As a co-founder, I bring that operator perspective alongside a conviction that empathy isn't soft. It's how you build a team capable of doing hard things. - Lead, coach, and develop a team of R&D Managers - Maintain cross-functional collaboration with internal & field teams (local PMs/salesforce) to provide scientific expertise and functions as a scientific advisor. - Conduct scientific and strategic interactions across the Nobel Biocare portfolio with Key Opinion Leaders. - SME providing scientific input, justifications, rationales, and clarifications to global regulatory submissions (MDD, MDR, FDA, PMDA, NMPA). - Manage R&D projects including pre-clinical evaluations on the entire product portfolio in medical devices - Ensure product safety and compliance by evaluating biocompatibility according to standards, execute and support compliance activities and projects - Execute biocompatibility and pre-clinical evaluations, as well as OEM product assessments of biomaterials, surfaces, and related technologies with potential applications in implants and oral implantology according to established lean processes - Network with opinion leaders and lead users for project purpose and knowledge management, manage focus groups in the implant systems and research field - Identify, develop, and characterize new ideas, new products, and new processes using benchtop studies - Monitor external tests and studies for proof of principle or proof of concept on new product developments - Support scale-up, validation, and launch activities for transfer to Product Management and Operations - Network with academic and non-academic institutions for project purposes knowledge management - Stay abreast of current academic research, literature, and new technologies
