Cody leads Dickinson's state and local tax practice and practices primarily in the area of taxation. He advises both small and multi-state companies on a wide range of tax matters including tax controversy, multi-state taxation, tax refunds, mergers and acquisitions, voluntary disclosure agreements, and tax planning. As an outgrowth of Cody's state and local tax practice, Cody regularly represents and advises taxpayers in various aspects of Iowa administrative law, including, but not limited to, contested cases, petitions for declaratory order, petitions for rulemaking, and public records under Iowa Code chapter 22. Finally, Cody advises employers throughout the United States who seek honest and prudent advice regarding the Employee Retention Credit.
Cody's practice included advising clients on all matters related to state and local taxation. Specifically, on a nation-wide basis, he advised clients on the structuring and taxability of transactions, defended clients in department of revenue audits, and provided both sell- and buy-side tax guidance in mergers and acquisitions. Periodically, Cody researched and provided guidance on state tax matters for RSM's Washington National Tax practice.
