I hold a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. I currently lead the Mortgage engineering vertical at Ocrolus, overseeing the roadmap and development of the products in Mortgage. I am an expert in building and scaling web applications and backend systems while employing a wide breadth of tools to ensure their performance, robustness, and reliability. I automate tedious processes so we can focus on tackling important problems and building new ideas. I lead innovation and engineering within the mortgage industry at Ocrolus, overseeing two high-performance engineering teams dedicated to delivering and perfecting our workflow-based solutions in three key revenue products: Classify, Analyze, and Inspect. I drive strategic technical initiatives that helps our business break into the technologically antiquated and change-resistant mortgage industry. I identify and spearhead cross-functional areas of opportunity to improve development efficiency, scale performance to higher traffic, streamline onboarding and activation, and reduce churn by identifying and re-engaging with at-risk clients.
Engineering Lead of the Dashboard and Mortgage Team. Responsible for creating and delivering the quarterly roadmap and long term technical vision for the Dashboard product. Managed over 15 engineers. Leading the multi-year effort to rebuild our legacy web app to a modern dashboard using the latest frontend technologies and best practices including TypeScript, React, Redux, Material UI, React Testing Library, Cypress, Playwright, Heap, Hotjar, Segment, Google Tag Manager, Sentry, Browserstack, Userpilot, and much more. Major projects that I oversaw include the Book List, Onboarding, Book Overview, Detect in Dashboard, Settings Center with Webhook Management and Testing, Book Sharing, File Uploader with Document Classification, Credit Card Checkout, Lender Analytics, and Cashflow Analytics 2.0. For Mortgage I oversaw the difficult multi-quarter development journey of building a brand new product suite with Encompass Partner Connect, Classification, Import to Encompass with ICE, and automated Income Calculator Analysis with Wage-Earner, Self-Employed, Rental, and Other Income. Coordinated company-wide initiatives and releases across engineering, client success, implementations, operations, sales, finance, legal, marketing, and product. Day-to-day tasks include technical planning, drafting API contracts and RFCs, creating and improving processes and standards, writing technical documentation, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding engineers, reviewing pull requests, building new features, scripting, attending stake holder meetings, refining MVP scope, performing agile ceremonies, and growing my direct reports.
Managed the Dashboard frontend engineering team since July 2021, during which I took over leadership and worked with AgileEngine Ukrainian contractors. I managed a total of six contractor engineers and four full-time employees. Took over product management responsibilities for a quarter when the previous product manager left. Subsequently worked closely with our new product manager to perform quarterly planning, estimation, and capacity planning for over a year before my promotion. I built the Universal Login and Sign Up with Auth0, Onboarding, OAuth Credential Management, Invitation Flow with integration to HubSpot, and various pages in the settings center. I led the multi-quarter development of the Book Overview page, Detect, and Credit Card Checkout projects. I cleaned up several duplicate components to make them consistent and reusable. I set up Heap, Hotjar, Google Tag Manager, Segment frontend, BrowserStack, Ironclad Clickwrap, Stripe for the team and organization. Lastly I greatly improved our release process saving time and energy for the entire team by implementing the Beta and Alpha environments with Kubernetes. This approach solved the issue of testing difficulties with lower environments and significantly improved the previous processes of releasing to prod during late and last minute evening hours, testing the new features, and rolling back.
Conceived and built Stash Canary, the AB testing framework used by the Web Engineering chapter to drive innovation and experimentation across the product and organization. Canary uses git to handle experiment branching logic and solves the difficulties of maintaining, managing, and tearing down AB tests. Canary enables product and engineering to iterate quickly with true isolation and test features in minutes that would have otherwise taken hours or days to complete. Led the onboarding team on critical deliverables to increase the company’s growth by reducing friction in sign ups and drive account activation. I worked closely with many stakeholders and departments across the company to accomplish these goals by testing and measuring every feature and making rapid iterations. Main accomplishments: - Expanded product offerings from investing to retirement and custodial accounts and added bank linking and card linking to onboarding. - Reduced payback down from $80 to $15 with subscriptions tiers. - Led the initiative to make web the testing ground for spearheading new ideas. Worked closely with product, data science, and marketing to get more traffic onto web to get faster experiment results. - Tripled the company's valuation by spearheading Onboarding 2.0 which increased the number of chargeable users while providing users educational investing content. Other accomplishments: - Separated registration and onboarding into its own repo and service. - Built bank linking with Plaid and Quovo. - Built card linking with Tabapay. - Built universal onboarding and multi-account funding. - Built the buy and sell flow for investments. - Built navigation and browse investments. - Built investment details and graph experience. - Refined our CI, deployment, and release processes. - Pioneered Styled Components, Storybook, error logging and reporting, and automation scripts.
Quartet is a behavioral health care startup with a collaboration platform for patients, primary care physicians, behavior health providers. The platform ultimately facilitates the networking, scheduling, and transparency missing throughout the entire behavior health industry. Quartet uses patient insurance claims to screen for potential behavior health issues and recommends data-driven treatments based on the patterns of the symptoms. Develop the primary care physician application and recommendation UI by creating the API endpoints, backend database queries, and front-end UI. Acquired by Gartner in Q2 of 2017. I helped build Datatron and HQ, L2's internal tools for managing projects, aggregating reporting data, and interfacing with our 50+ scrapers terabyte datalake. These tools were used by our research analysts to produce the company’s flagship product, the Digital IQ. Built these internal web apps and backend services: - Datapoint UI to manage datapoints and their dependencies. - Entities Admin to manage brands and companies. - Study Admin to consume excel spreadsheet and store the parsed data to our datalake. - Google sheets an experimental google sheet replacement for excel to improve spreadsheet collaboration. - Data Health to alert for scraper and data issues. Technical leadership intiatives include introducing linting for the front-end team, refactoring and trimming our codebase, automating our workflow, writing our first unit tests, and exploring emerging technologies. Working at Newsela taught me about the intricacy of working at a startup with a product used by millions of teachers and students. During my time at Newsela, I was hired as the fifth engineer and was deeply involved in developing the core product at a full-stack capacity while wearing multiple hats. Built Universal Signup: A rehaul and redesign of our signup flow to onboard students, educators, parents, and readers on the website and mobile app web view. Features include school suggestions based on email domain, school searching, filtering, classroom registration, resuming logic, and Google sign-in. This project went through rapid prototype iteration and was coordinated with the native app's launch. A/B tested UI features to improve their usability and discoverability. Segmented users across classrooms, schools, districts, and states on a rolling basis. Tracked events with Mixpanel. Built a Kinesis firehose pipeline and AWS lambda to send clickstream data to Redshift. Newsela Bilingual: Architected and refactored the backend to support multilingual articles with a successful launch of the Spanish product. Implemented language switching on the site. Performed operational tasks. Reorganized our static files, removed dozens of libraries and legacy code, upgraded packages. Introduced Gulp to build, watch, and bundle our static assets. Deployed Flask and Node applications on AWS, most notably a complex NLTK and Scikit machine learning service. Added front-end enhancements, updated our Django API, wrote tests, and fixed hundreds of bugs--ranging from design tweaks to performance issues and race conditions with the API. Created a social sharing count button. Created SQL views for marketing and replaced sluggish ORM reporting queries with raw SQL and redshift to speed up the backend.
