Cláudio Nico is the manager of research and development at RiverD International, a Rotterdam based Dutch company, specialized in developing Raman spectroscopic instruments, software and methods for in vitro and in vivo analysis of cells and tissues. Cláudio graduated in Physics Engineering and holds a PhD in Nanosciences and Nanotechnology. He worked several years as a scientific researcher in the field of materials science and optical spectroscopy, in both academic and industrial environments. Since 2017 Cláudio has been dedicated to the development of biomedical devices based on Raman spectroscopy, as well as to the implementation of data analysis methods in spectral analysis software.

Study of nanoparticles of large bandgap oxides for bioprobing and for solid state lighting. Prototype development of solid state lighting devices based on OLEDs and UV LEDs coated with nanophosphors.
Responsible for the research and development in a project promoted by KEMET Portugal and the I3N - Department of Physics of the University of Aveiro, for the development of a new family of capacitors based on niobium oxides, to be adapted to the existing production line in the facilities. Experience in process manufacturing protocols and quality control. Active contribution in the project management and QREN project reports. Planning and coordination of activities between the workgroups of KEMET facilities and the research laboratories of the I3N Aveiro.
