I’m a physician (graduated with honors from UBA in 1991), specialized in Medical Genetics, with a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering. I had my PhD thesis in the area of Molecular Biology of Neurodegenerative Diseases at Fundación Instituto Leloir (formerly Fundación Campomar) and continued my post-doctoral education at Hinxton (Cambridge). I have completed my specialization through multiple courses in Argentina and abroad, the most outstanding being traineeships at the department of Oral Pathology and Genetics at the University of Minnesota and my participation in training programs at the Greenwood Genetic Center, South Carolina, USA, the Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbour, Maine, USA, and the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus, Hinxton, England. I’m the Scientific Director at the National Administration of Laboratories and Institutes of Health (ANLIS) “Dr. Carlos G. Malbrán.” I have made over 70 presentations at international symposiums and 35 at national events. I have published 42 peer-reviewed papers in international journals, two books, and have contributed in multiple chapters of books about movement disorders. I have received the “Dr. Diego E. Zavaleta” award from the School of Medicine, UBA, for my activity in clinical research; the 2011 Houssay Investigator Award granted by the Secretary of Science and Technique, UBA, for my research work in neurodegenerative diseases; the Honor Award at the 5th Latin American Congress on Lysosomal Disorders in 2013 for clinical-molecular findings related to Niemann-Pick’s Disease; the 2013 Argentine Neurological Society (SNA) Award for Genetics Developments in Parkinson’s Disease; the Research Award from Fundación HD Lorena Scarafiocca for my translational research activity in Huntington’s Disease in 2015; the 2021 Award to the Outstanding Woman in Science granted by ASEMPIO, Association of Businessmen and Businesswomen from SME for Equal Opportunities in March 2021; and the “Leading Women of Mankind” Award granted by the Working Women Committee of the Americas of the General Confederation of Labor of Argentina in May 2022.
