Drawing on a background in academic research, I am a senior operations and R&D lead with experience in a research-driven medtech SME. I work at the interface of operations, R&D, commercialisation, and strategy, with a focus on delivering commercial and real-world impact. Co-founded and led a health-tech startup developing a novel hearing screening technology designed for large-scale population detection of hearing loss. Built the company from early research through product development, product validation, and commercial pilot deployments. Key contributions and achievements: - Led development of a novel spatial-based hearing screening paradigm achieving ~95% accuracy in predicting hearing status categories. - Built and scaled company operations from early R&D to commercial pilots across the UK and Europe. - Secured £2.5M in private investment and grant funding from sources including Innovate UK, and Scottish Enterprise. - Oversaw intellectual property strategy, including filing and securing a granted EU patent covering the screening methodology. - Designed and delivered large-scale usability and validation pilots with more than 400 participants. - Developed commercial deployment models for screening services in retail, healthcare, and community settings. - Deployed screening technology in optical and hearing-care retail environments with ~30% conversion from test result to service sign-up. - Established relationships with NHS partners, academic groups, industry partners, and charities to develop community-based hearing screening programmes. - Managed third-party partnerships covering product design, manufacturing, regulatory certification, and hardware development. - Led a multidisciplinary team of 10 across research, product development, and operations. - Responsible for financial management, company governance, hiring, and board reporting.
Worked on neurophysiological and behavioural data analysis within a randomised controlled trial, investigating auditory processing and motor function in chronic stroke patients. Responsibilities: - Analysed behavioural and neuroimaging datasets from clinical trial participants using MEG and MRI methodologies. - Designed follow-up experiments to test central auditory processing abilities in stroke patients and healthy controls. - Contributed to research outputs including conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications (Fuijoka et al., 2020).
Supported and managed basic and clinical research projects investigating speech understanding, spatial hearing, and auditory attention in children.
