I was responsible for all aspects of the study “ Forgoing health care for economic reasons “ under the supervision of Professor Idris Guessous; 400 women and men were recruited and examined. I conducted various activities: - Preparing study-related documents (e.g.informed consent forms, information letters and visit reports) - Submitting the study protocol and related documents to the Ethics Committee - Creating an online health and lifestyle questionnaire to facilitate data collection - Setting up and supervising the participants’ recruitment and selection - Conducting participant visits, including planned tests and assessments (e.g. functional tests, veinous blood samples and blood pressure, questionnaires on health, lifestyle and nutrition) - Managing the study databases for quality, ensuring that data is collected and entered correctly - Reviewing and analyzing data for use in publications and grant applications - Writing and reviewing grant applications and scientific publications Other responsibilities and duties included: - In charge of the quality control of the questionnaire-based data collected by the 5 centers (Zurich, Bern, Basel, Lausanne and Geneva) participating in a national multicenter study (Swiss Kidney Stone Cohort) led by the Swiss National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) Kidney Control of Homeostasis (Kidney.ch) - Participated in the preparation of a poster to present a sub-project aiming to compare people with kidney stones to the general population - Performing statistical analysis based on the sub-project data - Occasional team member of the University Hospitals Health Bus (“Bus Santé”) team during health-screening tours performed at individual companies’ locations or public events - Trained and experience in capillary blood sampling - Managing the Facebook page “Bus Santé” of the Unit, dedicated to public health news.
I was responsible for all aspects of the study « Bone health, risk of osteoporosis and fracture, in Geneva retired people - genetic and environmental factors » under the supervision of Professor René Rizzoli; almost 1000 women and men around 65 years old (GEneva RetIrees COhort, cohorte GERICO) were recruited and examined during the 1st and 2nd rounds of the study. I conducted various activities: - Preparing study-related documents (e.g. informed consent forms, information letters and visit reports) - Submitting the study protocol and related documents to the Ethics Committee - Setting up and supervising the participants’ recruitment and selection - Coordinating a team of 8 study collaborators (nurses, technicians, dietician, secretaries, students) - Conducting participant visits, including planned tests and assessments (e.g. functional tests, questionnaires on health, lifestyle and nutrition) - Managing the study databases, including ensuring that data is collected & entered correctly - Reviewing & analyzing data for use in publications and grant applications - Writing scientific articles published in top-ranked international journals - Presentation of posters at international congresses In parallel, I performed an online course on osteoporosis for medical doctors, nursing staff and the public. It has been a long time available on the Senaca website.
In parallel to the PhD, I conducted bone quality assessment examinations (DXA, ultrasound and peripherical microCT) for several research studies managed jointly by the Nuclear Medicine Division, the Bone Diseases Division, the Paediatric Division and the Nutrition Division. These studies were recruiting various populations such as children, athletes or adults with HIV.
