- Continued providing high-throughput DNA extraction and genotyping services following the transfer from 3CR Bioscience to Molbreeding Biotech, ensuring seamless workflow integration in the service lab - Operated and maintained high-throughput sample-handling and liquid dispensing robotics for library preparation, applying Molbreeding Biotech’s Genotyping by Targeted Sequencing (GBTS) technology. Gained theoretical knowledge of sequencing workflows using MGI platforms - Designed, executed, and analysed experiments to optimise DNA extraction protocols for novel plant species, assessing the efficacy of various extraction reagents and methodologies - Implemented and managed laboratory inventory tracking using LIMS, ensuring accurate stock monitoring and efficient resource allocation based on project demands - Played a key role in setting up the laboratory infrastructure, including the procurement of essential consumables and reagents to support high-throughput genotyping operations - Liaised regularly with 3CR Bioscience and cross-functional teams to coordinate ongoing genotyping projects and ensure smooth laboratory operations - Trained and mentored new colleagues in the use of extraction and genotyping equipment, ensuring compliance with current protocols and safety regulations - Managed international logistics for machines and sample shipments, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and maintaining timely project execution - Assisted in the preparation of technical documents and data for tender bidding, contributing to business development efforts
- Extracted DNA using the magnetic beads method from plant leaf or seed samples, employing standardised protocols and automated extraction robots. Processed up to 6912 samples per project - Provided high throughput genotyping services through end-point genotyping using 3CR’s PACE technology, managing up to 167,424 data points in a single project - Interpreted and analysed genetic data to support customer's research and development projects - Constructed and implemented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the company’s newly purchased extraction and genotyping machines - Revised and updated existing user manuals from partnering companies to ensure accuracy and clarity - Maintained and troubleshot automated machines to ensure optimal performance. Reported faults and suggest improvements to the company’s engineers and partnering companies as needed - Performed back testing on newly acquired high throughput extraction and sequencing machines, reporting any faults or issues - Communicated effectively with partnering companies to coordinate projects and resolve issues - Supported the setup of Molbreeding Biotech’s UK laboratory as part of 3CR’s collaboration with the partnering company - Assisted in the validation and evaluation of the performance and efficacy of different extraction reagents - Conducted research and development (R&D) on various extraction chemistries to assess their compatibility with 3CR’s DNA extraction robots, focusing on enhancing the eluted DNA yield and purity Attained good fundamental knowledge of: - Extracting DNA from animal blood samples - Sequencing with GBTS (Genotyping by Target Sequencing), including library preparation and sequencing using MGI’s DNBSEQ technique - Designing primers for various genetic applications
- Off-school mathematics support to 12 primary school students for a whole academic year - Taught exclusively students who struggled to pass mathematics examinations - Provided small-class teaching with personalized support - Revealed mathematical concepts with simplified, easy-to-understand explanations - Troubleshooted students' needs academically and emotionally by carefully spotting students' needs at an early stage - Encouraged students to ask questions and repeatedly gave them positive feedbacks - Conducted routine meetings with parents to report students' academic progress and supervise parenting methodology All the students had a significant upgrade academically and regained their confidence in Mathematics. This job gave me a great sense of satisfaction and I really loved my job as a math tutor.
- Assisted researchers' work in an active laboratory while gaining research experience in the 2nd year of my BSc - Job responsibility included making media, autoclaving equipment, and managing pipette tip boxes. - Was constantly provided with opportunities to learn by working alongside scientists This job gave me the experience of working in a laboratory full of passionate researchers. The experience also drove me to be a more organised person as I had to manage laboratory work while looking after university's coursework. I was exceptionally lucky to have this opportunity to be part of the team.
