I championed the implementation of a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) stage-gate process for the development of products based on customer needs. I developed project planning, reporting strategies, and forecasting processes whilst formalising risk and issue management. ★ Built and mentored team of technical programme managers, boosting performance and productivity through continuous process improvement. ★ Directly managed OEM projects, maintaining hands-on experience by onsite interaction at customer facilities in U.S. and China. ★ Played key role in development and launch of information systems security function.
I managed the Electronics & Power Generation Research & Technology Portfolio, developing a suite of electronic and power generation products for new distributed architecture for the next generation Rolls Royce UltraFan engine. I managed a team of as many as 20 cross-functional engineers. ★ Led several Innovate UK (www.innovateuk.gov.uk) and ATI (Aerospace Technology Institute www.ati.org.uk) programmes for next generation harsh environment electronics and power generation products. ★ Managed multiple projects, including switched reluctance generators, advanced lightning strike protection, core mounted electronics, harsh environment sensing, high temperature Silicon Carbide components for temperature excursions over 400°C, intermetallic joining technologies, and high integrity RF comms. ★ Co-ordinated £10m+ VisiumCORE programme including ASIC CPU core, custom memories, PHY, substrate, hermetic module, software compiler and associated tools from initial phases to clean room assembly, cutting nine months off scheduled completion. ★ Won multiple Rolls-Royce team innovation awards for CPU core design, ASIC test bench verification, and integrated product team leadership. ★ Delivered large engine PMA (Permanent Magnet Alternator) programme with significant funding through Advance Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative (www.financebirmingham.com/amsci). ★ Developed new IP in partnership with leading UK university, driving from low TRL to build capable product whilst developing UK-based supply chain to AS9100 compliance.
I was brought in as a heavyweight project manager (PM) to increase throughput of projects, develop capability, and increase cash flow and profitability. As PM for Eurostar and Finnair, I achieved the first PCI DSS accreditation for the offline Chip and PIN environment.
