About

Compliance functions like running a micro-nation: every day means balancing HIPAA, FERPA, GDPR, research integrity, conflicts of interest, and workplace investigations for thousands of clinicians, researchers, students, and staff. What sets this work apart are challenges such as managing cross-border data sharing amid evolving privacy laws, adapting programs to sudden regulatory shifts, and ensuring seamless collaboration among global teams with differing legal standards. It is far more than managing policy binders; it is governing a complex and ever-shifting landscape. My main goal is to design data-driven, AI-powered programs that put people first. I help boards and senior leaders understand risk clearly and work to build a culture where people feel safe and encouraged to speak up. I have set up AI tools for monitoring, triage, and workflow, and I care just as much about good governance, fairness, and psychological safety as I do about efficiency. I’m deeply influenced by Greg Boyle’s vision of “extravagant tenderness” and treasured belonging: the idea that everyone is unshakably good and already part of the community. Translating this value into institutional practice involves cultivating awareness of dignitary harm, applying restorative responses to misconduct, and conducting investigations that aim not only to resolve cases but also to repair trust. To ensure these values are reflected meaningfully in organizational outcomes, we systematically assess the effectiveness of our restorative approaches by tracking specific metrics, including participant feedback scores, the rate of reduction in repeat incidents, average time-to-resolution for cases, and post-investigation survey data. I’ve worked in higher education, financial services, and digital media, and I’ve learned what works and what doesn’t in compliance design. Early in my career in financial services, I witnessed how a junior employee's honest mistake uncovered a hidden process gap, and seeing leadership respond with empathy and a focus on learning changed my perspective on compliance from rule enforcement to culture-building. Since then, I have enjoyed helping organizations create programs that encourage innovation rather than automatically shutting it down. If you work where compliance, AI, and organizational culture meet—especially if you want to build real belonging in your organization—I would love to connect. I am interested in your challenges, stories, and creative solutions. What strategies have helped you build trust or a sense of community at your institution?
