Managed the train-level functional integration of the ABDO (assisted braking and door opening) system and ETCS (European Train Control System) on-board equipment for the SWR (South Western Railway) project. This included: - collaboration with stakeholders from all stages of the product life cycle. - conducting analyses of data and results associated with testing. - designing and improving test cases. - identifying and implementing design and documentation improvements. - making functional design changes to satisfy requirements. - responding to issues raised by test engineers. - writing arguments to demonstrate conformance with requirements. - writing reports to present and explain test results. In doing the above, gained experience of directly contributing to the delivery of a product as part of a large-scale engineering pipeline. Worked remotely with international colleagues.
Identified potential issues with proposed functional design changes by: - discussing proposed changes with functional architects. - using ControlBuild to model proposed changes and run simulations. This meant that issues with proposed functional design changes could be corrected before the changes were implemented in the train-control software. Worked remotely with international colleagues.
Developed digital tools to support manufacturing and services processes by: - carefully liaising with stakeholders throughout. - researching and experimenting to solve problems. These provided management with a clear and up-to-date view of progress towards targets and helped operations staff with daily task monitoring and prioritisation. (Alstom completed its acquisition of Bombardier Transportation at the end of January 2021)
Designed a PCB printed-circuit-board) recycling system, which involved: - researching electronic waste recycling and PCB assembly methods. - reverse engineering to work out how to dismantle a PCB. The findings were then condensed into a high-level system architecture design.
Planned a mobile-banking facial-verification-systems project, considering: - user stories in the context of agile software development. - the differing roles of technical teams and management. This provided a foundation of knowledge of agile practices and design thinking.
- Provided help and support to passengers passing through a train station. - Improved interpersonal skills and grew in self-assurance.
