• Manage complete corporate and on-site operations of GMB Construction, Huffman Group’s internal construction arm. • Oversee all pre-development activity within the Huffman ownership group to source and prepare new sites and acquisitions, including design, zoning approval, and permitting. Coordinate with Huffman Asset Management upon product delivery to develop unit turn schedule and processes. • Personally conduct all aspects of construction to ensure timely and on-budget product delivery; including: Macro-operations of corporate structure, securing debt and equity financing, and payroll and personnel management. Micro-operations of buy-out/contracting, material take-offs and procurement, and daily on-site resolution of issues regarding constructability.
• As the head of new development, tasked with directing Silver Oak’s “ground-up” multifamily development business model and responsible for all tasks related to site selection, zoning analysis, architectural and engineering plan coordination, entitlements, and plan approvals through to permit. • Oversaw entire project development process from site selection to final Certificate of Occupancy and project transition to asset management. • Raise capital for the creation of multi-family acquisition funds to directly invest in existing value-add or cash flowing properties. Manage subsequent rehab, asset management and fund oversight. • Continually source potential investments, acquisitions, development or land opportunities.
Provided turn-key project development and construction management services on a contract basis to firms lacking in-house capabilities. Other services: Planning and zoning; Public financing (tax-increment financing, grants, etc.); Lender work-outs through Special Assets Division; Asset Management. Total project management portfolio valued over $200 million. Partnered with a retired Army Ranger to pursue federal government construction opportunities set aside for the firm’s unique Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned (SDVO) status. Launched the firm’s medical supply division to quickly supply product to VA Hospitals and rehabilitation centers.
Ran all project and construction management for a $90 million Mixed-Use, Transit-Oriented Development backed by the State of Michigan Employees Retirement System (MERS), the state’s $52 billion pension fund. Product types included: Class-A Multi-family, Retail, Townhouse Lot Development, Park Land and Public Infrastructure. Additional duties included institutional reporting to MERS and post-construction asset management.
