Councillor for the Canal ward, representing the North Kelvin, Firhill, Ruchill, Lambhill, Milton, Possilpark, Hamiltonhill, Cowlairs, Parkhouse and Colston communities. As a local Councillor, I was responsible for the delivery of local, statutory services. I attended Committee meetings to hold the officers and the Executive to account. I held regular surgeries for constituents, and attended meetings of Community Councils, Residents' Associations and Parent Councils to work with them for the benefit of the local community. I served as Convener of the Council's Licensing & Regulatory Committe, with responsibility for overseeing the Council’s statutory functions in connection with all licensing and regulatory matters. I served as a member of various Council committees and on the Board of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport. I was pleased to Chair the Canal Area Partnership, as part of Glasgow's Community Planning Partnership; bringing together local Councillors, community residents, police, fire service, NHS and the voluntary sector to help shape local services. As Chair of the Area Partnership, I worked with the partners to ensure that the public services in the area are delivered in the most effective way possible. The Partnership is responsible for administering the grants process, as part of the Integrated Grants Fund. My work as a Councillor required me to be a confident oral communicator. I therefore became adept at working in a variety of settings; whether dealing with sensitive casework at a surgery, providing verbal updates to meetings of local residents, or debates in the Council Chamber
