  • Senior Geo-environmental Engineer at RSK Middle East
    Apr 2018 - Apr 2021 · 3 yrs 1 mo

My move to Abu Dhabi was an internal transfer from the Tonbridge office in Kent where I was working as a senior geoenvironmental engineer specialising in geoenvironmental and geotechnical site investigation. I wanted to bring in my experience of site investigation, project management and reporting to help shore up the back office support provided for two of the largest clients, Basra Gas Company (BGC) and Rumaila Operating Organisation (ROO) which combined are worth approximately 10 million USD per year. RSK was commissioned by ROO to undertake work under three separate call off contracts including Environmental, Environmental, Social, and Health Impact Assessment (ESHIA) and Technical services; Fieldwide Asbestos; and to run the Rumaila Waste Centre’s (RWC’s) operations and waste transportation in Iraq. RSK was commissioned by BGC to undertake work under two call off contracts including an environmental scope and geotechnical scope. The work involved being the primary point of contact and seeing projects through from start to finish. Project work undertaken in the middle east tends to be complex, multidisciplinary and trans regional involving RSK staff in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Iraq and the UK and specialist subcontractors across the region. Both BGC and ROO were located in southern Iraq. This meant multiple trips into Iraq for work with approximately ten trips being made between 2018 and the end of 2019. I really enjoyed the challenge that such trips represented. The natural environment in Iraq is hot and dusty, reaching summer temperatures in excess of 50 C.
