About

Dr. Christine Frison is an international law jurist & researcher specialized in international environmental issues (in particular international biodiversity and agrobiodiversity law). She is Research Associate Professor of ecological law at the University of Liège, Belgium. Previously, she was a F.R.S-FNRS Postdoctoral Researcher at the Interdisciplinary Research Institute for Legal Sciences from the Université catholique de Louvain and an Associated Research Fellow at the Government & Law Research Group at the Law Facutly of the University of Antwerp. She teaches or has taught international environmental & sustainable development law and legal research methods at the Université catholique de Louvain, Université Libre de Bruxelles and at the University of Antwerp. Christine has carried out her joint-Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. Tom Dedeurwaerdere, Prof. Olivier De Schutter (UCLouvain, UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights) and Prof. Geertrui Van Overwalle (KU Leuven). Since 2004, she is a Legal Research Fellow with the CISDL (McGill, Montreal, Canada). She worked as legal advisor for the Belgian Federal Ministry of Environment (member of the Belgian ABS Contact Group 2006-2010). She carried out legal consultancy contracts and internships for international organizations such as Bioversity International, IDLO, UNEP. She has represented the CISDL, the Belgian federal government and Bioversity International at numerous intergovernmental negotiation meetings held at FAO, ITPGRFA, CBD and WIPO. Christine has published five books and numerous contributions in peer-reviewed journals, co-edited volumes and conferences.
