The mission of a U.S. diplomat, a commissioned member of the United States Foreign Service, is to promote peace, support prosperity, and protect American citizens while advancing the interests of the U.S. abroad. A U.S. diplomat, also known as a Foreign Service Officer (FSO), formulates and implements the foreign policy of the United States. FSOs spend most of their careers overseas as members of U.S. embassies, consulates, and other diplomatic missions.
AAFAA is an association of Civil Service and Foreign Service employees, fellows, contractors, interns, and retirees at the U.S. Department of State with the mission to improve recruitment, outreach, and professional development of Asian American and Pacific Islander officers within the Department of State.
The Center for a New American Security's Next Generation National Security Leaders Program is a highly selective, year-long, part-time professional development fellowship that brings together a bipartisan group of 20–25 emerging leaders from across the national security field for a year of learning best practices and lessons in leadership and management. The competitive program selects national security professionals from various federal agencies, the military, academia, the media, Capitol Hill, industry, and other related positions.
