Current research focus: Nature-society interactions, in particular the socio-ecological carbon metabolism and its interrelations with land use; climate change mitigation by land use, forestry and other land use; possibilities and constraints of the use of bioenergy and biomaterials; human induced vegetation fires; the future sociometabolic transition and its impact on land use; post-growth economics
At the Institute of Social Ecology at BOKU, I conduct and lead research on past and future transformations of social-ecological systems, in particular the agro-food system. A particular focus of my work are land and GHG footprints of different consumption and production patterns and how they might change in the future. Currently, I contribute my expertise to the EU funded project Europe-LAND (https://europe-land.eu/) and the COMET project FFOQSI (https://www.ffoqsi.at/).
